£25 an hour
One off consultation
£180 fixed fee
After a basic site analysis where I look at your soil type, the site aspect and views and a chat about what kind of garden you want, you will receive a concept proposal for you to carry out, an illustrated list of plants that are suited to your site and information on how to look after them, and a sketch of how the proposed changes will look. I can advise on finding contractors and sourcing plants.
The cost of a design project varies. The basic hourly rate on a small design project is £60 an hour paid at intervals during the project. On projects over £10,000 the fee will be worked out as a percentage of the contract cost .
I. Initial consultation: We begin with a first (free) visit where we can meet each other, look at the site and discuss what you want to do. If we decide to work together, I will then provide you with an initial design concept presentation based on our meeting, at a flat fee of £180.
II. Outline proposal: Once we agree the first concept, I will carry out a site analysis and context study. If required there will be a survey done by a professional surveyor, but this depends on the scale of the work. For small replanting projects in an existing garden with no major landscaping changes, a professional surveyor is rarely necessary. On occasion we may call on the services of other professionals, such as arborists or building conservation specialists. At this stage we work together to develop the concept in detail over the course of several meetings until we have a final plan that you are happy with.
This is when we make any major changes to the design, determine what work will be done and roughly how long it should take and how much it should cost. This stage will be charged at an hourly rate.
III. Detailed plan and tenders: Having agreed on a final design concept within a rough budget, We can now begin the detailed design, producing construction plans and details to be used by building contractors and if necessary the local planning department. We will interview contractors and I will produce exact planting plans and visualisations. At this stage we finalise the cost and a schedule of works.
IV: Build: I do not carry out building work and landscaping services but can advise on contractors and can project manage the build.
V: Planting: I source plants and carry out the planting.
IV. After completion I will make regular follow up visits for a period of time to make sure the garden is settling in and advise on a maintenance program. I can also take care of long term maintenance within the London area.
